Why Your Matcha Habit Might Be Staining Your Teeth More Than Coffee

One way matcha can stain teeth more than coffee is if you consume it throughout the day.

Many people limit themselves to one cup of coffee on their way to work, but matcha lovers may indulge in the green beverage two or three times daily to absorb the benefits.

It's important to note that (pound for pound or cup vs. cup), coffee tends to stain teeth more than matcha.

Matcha, Coffee, and Your Smile Health and Aesthetics

Matcha is made from green tea leaves, but unlike green tea, it is not steeped and brewed. Instead, you consume the powdered leaf in hot water or milk.

Matcha contains antioxidants, which neutralize free radicals in the body. Additionally, you’ll find fluoride. Generally, matcha is considered healthy for your smile.

Coffee, on the other hand, is acidic, which can harm tooth enamel over time. It is also not very hydrating and can lead to tooth staining. However, coffee may help protect your liver!

When it comes to coffee, moderation is key.

Lowering Your Risks for New Tooth Stains

Your dentist in Indianapolis recommends:

  • Regular Dental Cleanings: You should visit the dentist twice yearly for dental checkups and teeth cleanings. Teeth cleaning removes the acid and debris that can lead to tooth stains and tooth decay.
  • Brushing and Flossing: Remember to brush your teeth at least twice daily to lower your risks for tooth stains and oral health complications.
  • Moderation: Enjoy tooth-staining foods and drinks in moderation!
  • Consider Professional Teeth Whitening: Professional teeth whitening in Indianapolis can lift stubborn tooth stains and brighten your smile.
