Family Dentistry

A child looking at her teeth with her dentistWe recommend that your child’s first dental visit occur by their first birthday or when their first tooth appears, whichever comes first. Early visits are crucial for setting the stage for positive dental experiences, establishing healthy oral habits, and catching potential issues before they become serious.

At Southeast Family Dental, our goal is to make your child’s early dental experiences comfortable, positive, and beneficial for their long-term health.

Expert Care for Tongue and Lip Ties

For some children, seeing a dentist even earlier may be necessary. Dr. Laura Geiger is experienced in evaluating and treating tongue and lip ties that can impact breastfeeding, bottle feeding, and even early speech development.

These conditions, which restrict the natural movement of the tongue or lips, can be frustrating and challenging for parents and babies. Dr. Geiger offers gentle, effective treatments to resolve these issues and ensure your baby thrives.

Start Your Child’s Smile Off Right

Early dental visits allow us to build a strong partnership with parents and offer guidance on brushing, diet, and teething concerns. If you’re ready to schedule your child’s first visit, call us today at (317) 359-8000. We proudly serve families in Indianapolis, Beech Grove, Franklin Township, Warren Township, and beyond!

At Southeast Family Dental, we use digital x-rays to lessen radiation exposure. Digital imaging captures resizable pictures of your child’s oral structure safely and effectively. We also use digital sensors to make scanning more comfortable.

Digital x-rays emit far less radiation than their traditional counterparts. Additionally, they don’t require storage and are better for the environment.

Reasons Your Child Might Need a Dental X-Ray in Indianapolis

X-rays are a natural part of preventive dentistry. However, your dentist doesn’t take x-rays at every six-month checkup. Instead, we take them periodically to monitor oral health changes and development.

Additionally, we may take x-rays if we suspect an oral health issue that requires imaging for a definitive diagnosis. For example, if we suspect an emerging tooth infection or root cavity. X-rays also aid in treatment planning.

Ideally, if your child visits the dentist every six months for preventive checkups, enjoys a diet low in sugar and acids, and adopts an excellent oral care routine at home, there may be fewer reasons to take x-rays.

If the dentist needs to take x-rays, we’ll discuss it with you and explain the reason why.
